Diamonds for Peace has hosted workshops on soap making as an additional source of income, and to encourage better hygiene in 17 communities in Liberia. * The Gola National Forest in northwestern Liberia * The Gola National Forest in northwestern Liberia is one of the region’s largest remaining areas of dense evergreen and semi-deciduous forest. Through a collaborative effort between the Liberian government and the Rainforest Alliance (@rainforestalliance), it has been upgraded from a National Forest to a National Park (GNP), enhancing protections for its rich biodiversity. However, while safeguarding wildlife, this designation has also impacted local livelihoods, as small-scale miners can no longer operate in the area. Many members of the Pampaya Mining Cooperative Society (PAMCOS) lost their mines within the newly protected GNP. * Despite being one of the world’s wettest count * Despite being one of the world’s wettest countries, Liberia lacks the infrastructure to provide safe drinking water to all. According to @wateraid, 1.3 million people - about a quarter of the population - do not have clean water close to home. As a result, nearly 500 children under five lose their lives each year due to waterborne diseases linked to poor sanitation. At Diamonds for Peace, we are working alongside mining communities in Weasua to provide education on sanitation and optimal usage of this precious resource, particularly with the installation of portable clean water taps. During the Ebola and COVID-19 outbreaks, we donated portable water taps to promote handwashing and help prevent the spread of disease. * 【💎DFPと水問題💎】 リベリアは世界で最も雨の多い国のひとつですが、安全な飲料水を提供するインフラが不足しています。ウォーターエイド (@wateraid) によると、人口の約4分の1に当たる130万人が清潔な水を身近に確保できていません。その結果、毎年500人近くの5歳未満の子どもたちが、劣悪な衛生環境に起因する水関連の疾患によって命を落としています。 DFPでは、ウィズアの採掘村と協力し、衛生教育、また、ウィズアの貴重な資源の最適な利用法、特に手洗い用バケツの設置に取り組んでいます。エボラ出血熱とCOVID-19の流行時には、手洗いを促進し、病気の蔓延を防ぐために手洗い用バケツを寄贈しました。 #DiamondsforPeace #Liberia #WorldWaterDay #Hygiene #世界水の日 #公衆衛生

* Seventeen-year-old Deborah, a 10th-grade student * Seventeen-year-old Deborah, a 10th-grade student from Weasua Town, took part in Diamonds for Peace’s trash management workshop in 2023. Inspired by what she learned, she began implementing waste management practices at home and school, encouraging her family and friends to do the same. She even set up a trash can in her home to collect waste for proper disposal at an approved site. Despite initial resistance from some in her community, Deborah remains committed: « I will not give up. * On this Human Rights Day, we reflect on Article * On this Human Rights Day, we reflect on Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which affirms: "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of themselves and their family, including food, clothing, housing, medical care, and necessary social services, as well as security in cases of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other circumstances beyond their control." In Liberia’s impoverished mining regions, Diamonds for Peace works to help communities understand these rights and take steps toward achieving them.
